An employee at Gulfport Family Restaurant tested positive for Hepatitis A, and could have exposed restaurant patrons from June 4 to 11.
“What we really know is that the employee, a food server, was infectious during that time,” said Pinellas County Health Department spokeswoman Maggie Hall.
The Pinellas Department of Health urges anyone who visited the establishment between those dates to receive the first dose of immunization. Those already vaccinated do not have to take action at this time.
Hall warned that while the chances of anyone contracting the illness was not extremely high risk, everyone should become vaccinated to eliminate all chances.
“We do want everyone to take precautions,” Hall said.
Located at 2025 49th Street S., Gulfport Family Restaurant remains open. Officials do not anticipate further risk to patrons.
Those with specific questions about exposure to hepatitis A at Gulfport Family Restaurant can call 727-824-6932 to receive information about the infection.
On Sunday June 9th David Ortiz, better known as Big Papi to Boston Red Sox fans, was enjoying a night out along with friends, at a popular night club in Santo Domingo , Dominican Republic. A lone gunman entered the premises and made his way toward the crowded area where Ortiz was seated. The young man aimed his gun at David Ortiz, who had his back facing the gunman. Several shots rang out. A video clipping was aired by CCTV and you could clearly see the gunman taking direct aim at Mr. Ortiz .This was a deliberate attack, no question about it.
Ortiz was rushed to the Abel Gonzalez Clinic where a team of surgeons and medical staff removed his gall bladder, parts of his intestines and his colon. Later , he was airlifted to the Massachusetts General Hospital courtesy of the Boston Red Sox Baseball Club, for more specialized medical care and where he is now resting. His wife,Tiffany Ortiz, as reported by Yahoo Sports, said her husband is thankful to be alive and he is making good progress. Still, he has a long recovery ahead of him.
Mean while, Dominican Republic Attorney General Jean Alain Rodriguez, released CCTV footage showing and identifying Feliz Garcia as the shooter . He along with four others have been detained in connection with the attack on David Ortiz. According to this report and other news outlets, each of the detainees were allegedly offered $8000 U.S. to murder Mr. Ortiz. So the question then becomes, Why? Who would want David Ortiz dead?
Big Papi, is a sports icon not only in Boston and the New England area, but throughout the Baseball world. He is a certain to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. He is a three time World Series Champion. He has hit well over 500 home runs. He is revered in his home country of The Dominican Republic. His charity work and hospitality are legendary on this beautiful island. Every where he goes in the Dominican Republic he is met with adulation. Or at least he was up until now.
The attempted murder on the life of David Ortiz by a group of individuals appears to be a co-ordinated effort, but the motive has yet to be determined. Someone was willing to put up over $40,000 US to have him snuffed out . I might buy into a deranged individual doing this for publicity or fame. A group of people, tells me this was a planned hit job. In the weeks ahead, more will be revealed as you can rest assure a lot of police resources will be brought to bare on this case.
In the meantime , all we can do is speculate as to why BIG PAPI was targeted. For most of us, this situation remains a BIG MYSTERY!
Love is our Priority and Love is our pursuit. These two statements sum up what most Religious leaders would encapsulate mankind to follow in life. Certainly, Jesus mentioned that the two great commandments were to Love God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength with the second being to Love Thy neighbor as thyself. Furthermore, in the biblical Book – 2nd Peter – the apostle states that Love covers a multitude of sins. Even if you do not follow a Religious doctrine, many ancient philosophers from Plato to Aristotle spoke of the virtues of love. Even some of our wisest thinkers have chimed in on the importance of love. Here are a few examples:
Love is the master key that opens the gates of happiness. – Oliver Wendall Holmes.
You come to Love not by finding the perfect person, but by seeing an imperfect person perfectly. – Sam Keen
You may only be a person to the world, but you may also be the world to a person. – Anonymous
It is love, not reason, that is stronger than death.- Thomas Mann
A loving heart is the truest of wisdom.- Charles Dickens
Sexiness wears thin after a while and beauty fades, but, to be married to a man who makes you laugh every day, ah, now that’s a real treat.- Joanne Woodward
We learn only from those we love.-Anonymous
Love is the only sane and satisfactory answer to the problem of human existence.- Erich Fromm
So ,why am I writing on this topic and why now? Good question. Well, to be honest it just came to me to write about it. Perhaps, being inundated everyday with news stories about murder, rapes, social injustice, intolerance , prejudice, religious persecution, inequality, greed, elitism and so on, I felt compelled to step back and wonder out loud – what is happening to our world. Hatred in all its forms is hellbent on taking over this planet. Evil and its accomplices lurking on our door step to kidnap our soul, spirit and mind. Well, there is a remedy to counteract this madness. And it starts with embracing a positive, caring, kind and loving heart. These are not weak attributes. We may be weak vessels to carry out such behaviors but believe me some of the most successful people in history managed to adopt these same attributes along with perseverance , hard work, commitment, tough mindedness and shrewdness.
Denzel Washington, in 2017, gave a commencement speech at Dillard University. Key to his address was to put GOD first and do not aspire to make a living, aspire to make a difference! The Academy award winning actor made several poignant points to include:
Believe in Your Gift -True desire in your heart for anything good, is God’s proof to you, sent beforehand , that it is yours already. Dream is already yours! You just have to work for it. It keeps tugging us inside and that is God’s way of showing you the right direction. Believe!
Goals Matter – You have these dreams. Dreams without goals remain dreams and fuel disappointments. Have daily, weekly, monthly and yearly goals. Goals serve as an anchor to your dreams.
Need for discipline – The gap between goals and achievement is taken by discipline and consistency. You need to control your mind to realize what lies in your heart.
Make a Difference – We all have that unique gift, to touch people, to affect people. Understand that gift. We can all change each others’ heart. Whether you have the gift of music, art, speaking, business, sports, teaching, manual labor, retail, no matter what. Listen to your heart.
Don’t Chase Money– I have made hundred of dollars in my life. I can’t take it with me. It’s not what you have, but what you do with what you have. Live for something greater than yourself. For that will determine not only how you live, but also how you die. And nobody wants to die with regret in their heart.
A great man giving some great advice but what does that have to do with Love? Well, that is the whole point of the article, silly you! Whether it is Jesus, Plato, Aristotle, Apostle Peter, People of Wisdom or Famous people like Denzel Washington, they all provide us with a road map to living a successful life – love of GOD, love of life, love of self, love of others and love what we do!
I was compelled to write in sorrow, the feeling of leaving this world never to return. When I am gone, tell everyone what you liked and loved about me, just as much as what you hated; I must say that I am ready, the time has come for me to leave you all, I know you enjoyed my laughter, jokes, lessons of love, and so much more. I have to say that I can no longer continue on. I guess you can say this would be my last words that you read straight from the heart. If you are reading this, I may have already gone away to a place that you will never know how beautiful until you get there. I am tired….. so much so that I feel that I will not be able to continue to run this race. I am fighting a war that I am not able to win. So knowing this, when I am gone, share what I have done to the world, talk about the impact I made in your lives. When its time to put me in the ground put pictures of all ages on the front program. Don;t mourn but celebrate.
The Toronto Raptors proved to be the best in the NBA winning a thrilling contest 114-110 last night at the Oracle Center in Oakland, California. It will be the last game ever played at Oracle Center as the Golden State Warriors relocate to a new stadium across the Bay in San Francisco starting next season. For the Raptors, it ended 24 years of ups and downs for a franchise , which in recent years, had to live with the moniker -good but not good enough. Last night they proved to the world they are worthy NBA Champions.
The game itself was , in many ways, a classic , with end to end action and shooters hitting three pointers at will especially Kyle Lowry, who was on fire in the early going accounting for all of Toronto’s first eleven points and ending up with 26 points.. The lead changed hands umpteen dozen times as the Gold State Warriors were determined to force a final game seven in Toronto. Raptors spread out their offense throughout the night with several players hitting +20 points including Leonard with 22; Van Fleet with 22 points; Siakim with 26 points. For Golden State, the Smash Brothers Thompson with 30 points and Curry with 22 points led the way with Iguodala pitching in with 22 points. The Raptors outscored The Warriors in quarters one, two and four, despite the Warriors field shooting percentage at an impressive 48%. But, as they often do, the Raptors know how to shut down an offense when it matters the most. Unfortunately for the Warriors, having their star player, Klay Thompson go down with a torn ACL ( later reported) all but snuffed out any chance Golden State had of making a valiant run for the Golden trophy. It seems no matter how hard they tried, destiny was not on the side of the Golden State Warriors – not this year.
And for those who say that home court is an advantage, do not tell that to either of these teams. Both teams won multiple times on the road in this series. Toronto won for the third straight time at Oracle Center, a place where the Warriors had an historical winning record of over .800. Think about that for a second. Teams would roll into this building and almost mail in a win to the Golden State Warriors. And just to set the record straight, it was Toronto’s fourth straight win this season counting a regular season win. So folks, give credit where credit is due- Toronto is a much better basketball team than many pundits would acknowledge. I think part of the reason stems from the fact that this team did not get much U.S. national media because it is a Canadian-based team.
In truth , they have been one of the top teams in the NBA for the past five seasons. Yet, for the past three seasons nothing but disappointing endings came their way. Thank you LeBron James! Trading their best player in DeMar DeRozen; firing their Head Coach, who was NBA Coach Of The Year in 2018, and getting Kuwi Leonard , an injured player who had played all of nine games in 2018, set the stage for a dominant NBA season. However, it was attaining Kuwi Leonard that tipped the scale for the Raptors in making them a powerhouse to dethrone the Golden State Warriors. His acquisition definitely proved valuable, as Leonard dominated throughout the playoffs and earned an MVP award in this year’s finals.
I would be remiss not to mention how incredible a dynasty the Golden State Warriors have been over these past five years. With three NBA Championships and five NBA Final appearances, this has truly been a team that will go down in sports history as one of the greatest, along side LA Lakers of Kobe Bryant, Chicago Bulls of Michael Jordan and Boston Celtics of Larry Bird. Stephan Currie, Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson are among the best who have ever played the game.
Today, I know Doctor Jaquetta Stevens is likely shedding a tear or two that her favorite team lost but to her , I simply say – you just have to admit the best team won! And with that I will close by once again congratulating the Toronto Raptors- NBA Champions!
CLEARWATER, Fla. (FOX 13) – The owner of Chick-fil-A in Westfield Countryside Mall in Clearwater, Florida has been charged with molesting a teen girl, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives arrested and charged Heather Matuszek, 32, of Dunedin, with two felony counts of lewd and lascivious molestation. They say Matuszek has admitted to two occasions of the alleged abuse, which the victim said happened in 2014 when Matuszek was a youth leader at Clearwater Community Church.
The incidents happened outside of the church setting, investigators said, adding contact between leaders and youths outside of the church is not uncommon.
According to her victim, who was 15 years old at the time, Matuszek, then 28, slept in the victim’s bed two separate nights.
The victim reported Matuszek kissed her face and rubbed her arms, body, and breast area, over her clothing.
The victim also said there were other incidents involving Matuszek outside of Pinellas County, which the sheriff’s office said are being investigated by the relevant agencies.
Detectives say Matuszek no longer attends Clearwater Community Church, however, there may be other victims who go to the church. The sheriff’s office asked anyone with information to call Detective Ghosio of the Crimes Against Children Unit at 727-582-6006.
Chick-fil-A issued a statement Wednesday evening, saying, “This is deeply disturbing news. No one should ever be subjected to this sort of abuse and we are shocked and saddened by the report. Law enforcement has jurisdiction over this matter and we are awaiting full facts to inform our actions. Chick-fil-A, Inc. is sending company representatives to the location for restaurant support.”
A 2016 post on the Facebook page for Chick-fil-A Westfield Countryside Mall welcomed Matuszek as its new owner/operator, saying, at the time, she worked for the company for six years. The post said she was an interim manager and traveled across the country, helping with the operation of multiple restaurants.
It was 25 years ago today, June 12, 1994, that Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman Jr. were savagely murdered on a hot and muggy night outside of Nicole’s condominium, in the upscale Los Angeles neighborhood of Brentwood. Nicole was the estranged ex wife of the famous NFL Star and actor O. J. Simpson. Ron Goldman Jr. , apparently was a good friend of Nicole Brown, who happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. We would learn from the trial of O.J. Simpson, that Ron Goldman Jr. was returning a pair of glasses to Nicole Brown that she left behind at the restaurant he worked at on the evening she was murdered. The murder scene was horrific. Nicole was lying in a pool of blood with her head nearly decapitated. Goldman, had been viciously attacked with multiple stab wounds inflicted upon him. It led investigators to believe that whoever did these murders, meant it to be personal and brutal.
This still unsolved homicide case was the most publicized prison trial in U.S. history. Why? Well , firstly, let me take you back to the day following the murders. Lead detective, Tom Lang of the LAPD ,arrived on the scene early on as did detective Mark Furhman. It was Furhman who discovered some of the evidence such as the bloody glove found at the property of O.J. Simpson’s house. After doing an exhaustive search of the crime scene and determining who the victims were, detectives next steps were to determine who might have done such a heinous crime. Because he was her ex-husband , police naturally went to the house of O.J. Simpson but soon discovered he was not at home. That did not stop them from surveying the property and they soon stumbled upon incriminating evidence. They also learned that O. J. had a person living in a guest house on the property named Kato Kaelin, who became famous for his testimony at the subsequent trial . Simpson, instantly became a person of interest. But first they had to find him and question him about the murder of his ex wife . O.J. was out of town on business when he got the news. By then , the press were swarming the place outside the Brown condominium and news about the crime soon caught wind by every major news outlet.
Knowing the police were mounting a case against him O.J. , rather than turning himself in, engaged authorities in the now notorious low-speed chase in his white 1993 Bronco .The vehicle was driven by his good friend Al Cowlings a former NFLer. Major News Networks interrupted prime time shows to cover the live event. Eventually , O.J. returned to his home and turned himself in to authorities. He was charged with the homicides of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman Jr. That set the stage for what became the most watched T.V. trial in American history.
To say it was a media frenzy is a huge understatement. O.J. Simpson assembled a so called Dream Team of legal representation. The list was a whose who of famous lawyers. Johnnie Cochran, F. Lee Bailey, Robert Shapiro, Robert Kardashian, Barry Sheck , Gerry Uelman and Alan Dershowitz. The best that money could buy. The Prosecution was led by Marsha Clark and Christopher Darden. And the Judge presiding over the case was Lance Ito. Night after night Americans, and in fact the world at large, would receive up to date reports on the trial. Talk shows, would devote endless hours covering the case. Cable News Networks literally grew overnight with millions of viewers and from this many News celebrities were born. It was, to say the least , a spectacle to behold.
The case itself was based on circumstantial evidence, but in my mind it was pretty damning for O. J. . The bloody glove. The blood found on the Bronco. The large bloody footprints left by Bruno Magli shoes, which O.J. Simpson owned. The evidence regarding O.J.’s past domestic behavior of abuse against Nicole. The challenge for the prosecution was to sway a jury who, like much of the public, bought into the persona that O.J. Simpson was an American icon that could not possibly commit such a horrific crime. The salient moment in the case came when the prosecution asked O.J. Simpson to try on the bloody gloves that supposedly belonged to O.J. This was disastrous for the prosecution. Having the accused try on gloves that were, by then crusty and has probably shrunk, gave the jury all the evidence they needed to have doubt that O.J. Simpson did the murders. After four hours of deliberation, on October 3rd, 1995, O.J. Simpson was acquitted of both the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.
The benefit of time has given many a chance to re adjudicate this case. We know the subsequent Civil trial did find O.J. guilty of these murders and of course later O.J. was sent to prison on Oct 3,2008 and served nine years for 12 charges against him which included robbery, kidnapping and assault with a weapon. He was released on Oct 1,2017 and now living in the Las Vegas area. To this day, the murder weapon in the crime -of-the-century case has never been found. Nor will it.
Did O. J. Simpson kill Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman Jr.? I say YES! How about you?
